Welfare of Street Children

Surveys indicated and it is well known fact that a large number of street children suffer destitution neglect, abuse and exploitation due to the circumstances beyond their control the surveys have also shown that, due to a variety reasons. A review of child welfare schemes has brought out that while there are schemes which provide residential care for neglected and socially maladjusted childrenall over the country, no plan for schemes has far been formulated to cater to the special problems and specific needs of street children in an integrated manner.

Our Street Children program aims at providing with food, shelter, clothing, medical facilities and vocational trainings till he / she emerge as earnings and responsible citizen. Initially we are planning to launch this program in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh and later extend to other parts of the country depending on the fund availability.

Project Objectives


To provide integrated community based non institutional basic services for the care, protection and development of street children facing destitution, neglect, abuse and exploitation. Program intervention will be focused on reduction of exploitation and abuse and withdrawal of children engaged in hazardous and bonded work.

Priority target group from amongst the street children should be those who are victims of abuse and exploitation, priority would be given to street children who are destitute with no family ties what so ever.

For the younger children, priority interventions will be to reinstate them in their families and facilitate their participation in the formal primary education. For older children, efforts would be directed at enhancing their education and providing skill for adult life. It brings with it equality among people. While privileged children receive international quality education, most underprivileged kids are provided with education only on paper.
